The Mets signed a one-year contract with outfielder Jesse Winker (31) for a total of $9 million (about 13.1 billion won) on the 17th (Korea Standard Time).

Winker, who was traded from the Washington Nationals to the Mets during last season, batted .253 with 14 homers and 58 RBIs in 145 games as an outfielder and designated hitter.

The Mets have made all-out efforts to catch Alonso, who has qualified as a free agent (FA) in the All Stove League, but negotiations are on the verge of collapse recently.

The Mets have offered $70 million over three years, but Alonso is said to be hoping for a long-term contract for more than six years.

In this situation, when the Mets signed Winker, some say it is a way to fill Alonso's gap.

The Mets are also reportedly considering bringing in Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Toronto Blue Jays' leading hitter, if the contract with Alonso fails.
